Karlovy Vary fest to host Iran’s ‘Like a Fish on the Moon’

Iranian film ‘Like a Fish on the Moon’ is to vie at the 56th Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

Iranian film ‘Like a Fish on the Moon’ has been shortlisted for the Proxima Competition section of the 56th Karlovy Vary Film Festival (KVIFF) in the Czech Republic.

Directed by Dornaz Hajiha, ‘Like a Fish on the Moon’ will compete with 11 more films from countries such as Canada, the Czech Republic, and Spain.

Proxima is the KVIFF’s new competition section which is dedicated to young filmmakers and auteurs with films that defy categorization.

Proxima has “no geographical restrictions and is open to filmmakers from around the world.”

‘Like a Fish on the Moon’ is a 78-minute film about Haleh and her husband Amir who have to cope with a tough situation.

Their four-year-old son Ilya has suddenly stopped talking. There is evidently no physiological cause, so they go to see a psychotherapist who comes up with a radical solution.

Ilya’s mother, who has cared for him until now, is to take a back seat while the father assumes her role looking after the child. This change in the established order sends the family into a downward spiral of tension and aggression, and it’s extremely difficult to see a way out.

Sepidar Tari, Shahdyar Shakiba, and Ali Ahmadi make the cast list of the film.

The Karlovy Vary Festival is one of the oldest in the world and has become Central and Eastern Europe’s leading film event.

The festival unveiled its official selection, which comprises 33 films from five continents, screening across three sections, also including Crystal Globe Competition and Special Screenings section.

The upcoming edition of the festival will be held on June 1-9, 2022.
